Investigators say a former detective in Kansas left five suicide letters before fatally shooting himself ahead of a trial in which he was accused of sexually assaulting women for decades.

The largest recruiting class for the Police Department this decade is part of an ongoing effort to bring the department to full employment. On Monday, nearly all of the 41 new officers were filling out paperwork at KCPD Headquarters downtown.

The house sits due east of the 18th Street Expressway and Metropolitan Ave. and just south of the Kaw River. Upon arrival, the man was found shot and killed inside the home.

KANSAS CITY, Ks. — Kansas City, Kansas Police are investigating an overnight homicide. KCK Police confirm they are on the scene at Ruby Avenue and S. Valley Street. At this point, they have not confirmed how many people died or if there is any suspect information.

The legislation heard in the Missouri legislature would place the St. Louis police department under a governor-appointed board, similar to the Civil War-era system that runs the Kansas City Police Department.

"The Kansas City Police Department said three teen girls haven’t been seen since Saturday night. Police issued missing person reports Sunday . . . All three were last seen at 11:05 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, near 55th Street and Cambridge Avenue. They were all said to have left on foot in an unknown direction."
