The Chinese fast-fashion giants will get slapped with a 10% tariff — but the end of a longtime trade loophole could hit them harder.

President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariff threats have been touch and go. As it stands currently, the 25 percent tax on goods from Mexico and Canada is on ice for a month, but a 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods is set to take effect on Tuesday, via an executive order of questionable legality.

US ecommerce company Amazon had sought to counter the threat posed by cheap Chinese suppliers by launching the “Haul” brand offering products for less than $20 with shipping times between one and two weeks. Now it may be able to avoid a “race to the bottom”, analysts said.
