Minnesota expected to retain No. 1 ranking in U.S. presidential voter turnout
Early and unofficial results recorded by the University of Florida’s Election Lab and secretary of state’s offices show Minnesota could take the No. 1 spot for voter turnout once again. Minnesota has held the No. 1 spot for voter turnout in every presidential election since 2008, according to data from the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office.
Minnesota voter turnout estimated below 2020 record
So far, the Minnesota Secretary of State says early results put Minnesota at about 76 percent turnout. That number is higher than the 2016 presidential election, when 74.72 percent of Minnesota voters cast a ballot, but below the record set in 2020 when the state saw a nearly 80 percent (79.96 percent) turnout.
Minnesota election turnout could lead U.S. again
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota’s voter turnout could be the highest in the U.S. again this year. Turnout in the state is currently estimated at just under 76%. Four other states currently report a turnout of over 72%, including Wisconsin and Michigan. Minnesota has had the highest voter turnout in each presidential election since 2008.

Voter Turnout Down, Recounts Expected
The Minnesota Secretary of State's office says early estimates indicate a turnout of around 76 percent for the 2024 election. That exceeds the 2016 turnout of 74.72 percent, but it falls short of the record-making voter turnout of 79.96 percent in 2020.
