The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for Merseyside amid forecasts of ‘snow and freezing rain’, with public transport users advised to expect disruption. In some parts of the UK, snowfall as thick as 40cm has been predicted.

Manchester United have released a statement after confirmation that their Premier League fixture against Liverpool will go ahead despite weather warnings.

A Met Office weather map shows a band of snow and hail making its way across Wales on Saturday evening before the first flurries hit the south of Greater Manchester at 8pm. By 8.15pm snow is forecast for the higher ground around Stockport, Tameside and Oldham, before the main band of snow and hail arrives around 8.30pm.

The UK is in the grip of a wintry spell of weather, with the Met Office issuing two fresh amber warnings for snow and ice for parts of England and Wales over the weekend. Snow has already been spotted in Conwy Valley in Wales.
