Three new wildfires have started in southern California since Monday as dry conditions and destructive winds continued to create a high fire risk in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. At least 24 people have been killed in the disaster and dozens more are missing.

The program guaranteeing fire insurance coverage for homeowners turned down by traditional companies, known as the California FAIR Plan​, could run out of money following the devastating destruction caused by the Palisades and Eaton fires.

The blazes have grown to more than 37,000 acres, killing at least 25 people and destroying thousands of structures.

The two largest, deadliest and most destructive fires in Los Angeles County did not expand overnight but remain dangerous winds expected to blow into Wednesday.

The governor lashed back after several Republican leaders said that aid to his state as it deals with deadly wildfires should be conditional.

California and other Democratic-controlled states would need to atone for “bad behavior,” if they wanted federal assistance, one lawmaker said.

Trump takes office in less than a week, but California's road to recovery will take months, and politics might get in the way.
